Weekly Update: July 20, 2020

Hello SMOS Families,

I pray that everyone is doing well and staying safe. As promised last week, every week I will send updates and reminders to all families.

1) When is the first day of school?

We are opening in phases.

  • 9/3/20 Grades Pre-k through 3 only (12:30 pm dismissal/NO EXTENDED DAY)

  • 9/4/20 Grades Pre-k through 8 (12:30 pm dismissal/ NO EXTENDED DAY)

  • 9/8/20 Grades Pre-k through 8 (First full day of school/ Extended Day begins)

2) Can I opt to have my child do remote learning?

  • Yes. You may choose to elect to do remote learning. Parents must commit to remote learning by trimesters. Ex: If you opt to do remote learning you must sign off to participate for the entire trimester. You may change once a new trimester begins.

4) Will SMOS teachers be teaching the remote learning option?

  • No. The Archdiocese has chosen Catapult to host the online learning. They will be responsible for teaching, grading and assessing. They will also enter grades into PowerSchool. If parents opt for remote learning, they will have the option of communicating with the Catapult teacher directly.

5) Will students that opt for remote learning interact with students in their SMOS classroom?

  • Students learning remotely will still receive Religion instruction from an SMOS teacher.

6) If I opt for remote learning do I still need to pay tuition?

  • Yes. Tuition will still need to be paid for both remote learning and in-person instruction.

7) Are there any changes to the start and end times of the school day?

  • Yes. School will now begin at 8:00 am. Students must be in their seats by 8:10 am. Dismissal will be at 3:00 pm. Every Wednesday dismissal will be at 2:00 pm to allow for a deep cleaning of the school.

If there are any further questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to Shauntae Davis or Mrs. Dixon

Thank you for your continued support and prayers.
